Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's ten-game winless start to the Premier League campaign.
Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the club - are among the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they start the search of hiring a fresh head coach.
Gary O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
